The problem · a synthetic multi-brand beauty retailer, 40 stores, 25 brands
Which shelf earns its rent?
A beauty retailer sells shelf space to brands. Headquarters keeps the register in a spreadsheet: which brand sits on which bay, under which contract, at what rent. The spreadsheet does not say what a bay sells, how many shoppers stop there, or what moving a brand would bring. Store Engine replaces it with a plan of every store.
| The question | The spreadsheet | Store Engine | Now |
|---|---|---|---|
| Which space is free, and worth what? | Empty rows, no price. | Vacant bays ranked by the traffic they would get, each with a suggested rent. | … |
| Which brands pay too little for their shoppers? | The rent, nothing to compare it to. | Rent per 1,000 shoppers at each bay, against the store median. | … |
| Which contracts end, and what to ask? | A date in a cell, found by chance. | Contracts ending within 90 days, with the rent the traffic supports. | … |
| What would a reorganisation bring? | A guess. | A simulation priced by a forecast that was tested on weeks it had never seen. | … |
